Generative AI is the branch of AI that produces new content instead of simply sorting or scoring existing data. Ask it for an email, a poem, a logo concept or a snippet of code and it generates something original in response. The AI writing tools on this site are generative: they turn a short prompt into finished text.
Under the hood, generative models learn the statistical patterns of their training data — how words tend to follow other words, or how pixels form realistic images — then use those patterns to produce plausible new examples. That is also why they can occasionally produce confident-sounding but incorrect output, so a human review step always matters.
