A large language model is the kind of AI that powers modern chatbots and writing assistants. It is trained on an enormous amount of text and learns to predict what word is likely to come next given everything before it. Repeat that prediction over and over and the model can write paragraphs, answer questions, summarize documents and more.
"Large" refers to both the training data and the number of internal parameters — often billions — the model uses to capture patterns in language. LLMs are impressively fluent, but fluency is not the same as accuracy: they can state wrong facts convincingly, so their output is a strong first draft, not a final authority.
